Educational Beliefs At the Houston Heights Learning Academy we:
Vision Statement The Success of Children Equals a Successful School. The Houston Heights Learning Academy will be designed to provide a quality education for all students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5 th Grade who are from different socio-economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds and prepare them through, an integrated curriculum, to become productive citizens in our highly technological society. Our Academy will serve a diverse population of students, parents, teachers, and community leaders by addressing the needs of students who are at-risk of dropping out of school, as well as those students who have been identified as gifted and talented. The Houston Heights Learning Academy will teach the basic fundamental skills of reading, writing, math, science, and languages. These skills will be taught using innovative techniques. The curriculum will be centered around integrated thematic units and experiential learning. The learning will be connected across grade levels and content areas. Students will be taught leadership and cooperative skills through the use of cooperative learning strategies. Through varied experiences such as group projects, internet learning, drama, music, field trips, students will experience many facets of learning. We will focus on each child's learning style surveys. All members of the school community will be provided training in the use of various teaching styles to meet the learning style needs of a diverse classroom population. The Houston Heights Learning Academy commitment is to provide an enriched education for the whole child: emotional, physical, social, and cultural. The whole child will be developed through the Academy's total program beginning with daily pre-school activities, continuing through the school day and extending into the after-school program offered to all students at the academy.
